1/7/08 Welcome back from vacation!
Warm up: What did you do over (during) the winter break?  Tell and write 3 things.
New Year's vocabulary, customs and traditions.  New Year's Resolutions
Looking back and looking ahead:  What did you do in 2007?  What do you want for 2008?
Homework check: "A Christmas Carol" questions.  Review answers together. Collect Q & A.
Make an illustrated "quilt" of "A Christmas Carol".  Students choose their favorite part of the story and illustrate it on 8 X 8 paper.  Write a caption at the bottom.
Sequencing cartoon strip: "Blondie" (New Year's Resolutions)
Homework:
1.  New Years Resolutions: Think of 2-3 goals for this year.  Fill out the chart:

2. Write a paragraph about your goals/resolutions. (Use your writing journal.)
3. Finish your quilt square.  Write the sentence on another paper to be corrected tomorrow.

Organizing note cards by topic;  Write the childhood paragraph, double-spaced.
Per. 3: Check paragraphs & compare phrasing to source (to ensure originality)
Homework: 1. Finish writing your biography paragraph about childhood.
2. Where did each idea come from? (source # 1, 2, or 3?)  Look at your note cards for the answer.  Then write a number (1, 2, or 3) beside each sentence in your paragraph.

1/11/08 Warm up: Blends:  Reread the poem, "It Couldn't Be Done".  Circle the blends. In groups, use the dictionary to brainstorm words with those blends. Write them on the board.  Add them to your lists.
Get in groups:  Blue Group: unit D pp. _____ - ________
Green Group:
Review vocabulary & correct activity book pp. 57-59.
Homework for all:  Write paragraph about Challenges.  Bring all biography materials & writing on Monday.
Blue Group:  1. Study Visions units A-D.  2. Review vocabulary from the Read aloud book.  3. Practice the syllables -ir, -ur, and -er, -ar;
-nd, -nt, -nk, and -st.
Green Group:  Activity Book pp. 60-62.  Do Questions and answers from the end of the story, p. 114.  Write the questions and answers using complete sentences.
