Date Homework
1/28/08 Homework check: Double-spaced biography, topic sentences underlined, and 3 parts highlighted.  Peer edit essays. Look for:  information, organization, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Then write your partner a note giving feedback, such as:

                about Washington’s childhood.  Good verb tense and punctuation.

1.      For students who are finished with the essay:
Movie: "Finding Nemo" (We finished at 1:21:40.)
Homework:
1. Study the vocabulary from Steck-Vaughn Read Aloud lesson # 3 (the poem entitled “We Can Do Anything"
      to scoff             to  assail          optimistic       to lament                                                               
     steadfast          decisive            gratifying         resigned
2.  Complete the fill-in-the-blank sheet using this same vocabulary.  Remember that the lines will rhyme.
3. Think about the Finding Nemo” movie.  Answer the following questions about the movie:
a) Was the movie fiction or non-fiction?
b) What was the setting of the story?  Remember: setting is time and place.
c) Who were the main characters?
d) What was Marline’s problem?
e)  How would you describe the blue fish named Dory?  Use adjectives to describe her.  Write a complete sentence.
4. Complete the rest of the questions about last week's movie, "The Long walk Home".  Be ready to turn them in tomorrow.

Finish "Finding Nemo"; correct Q & A about film.  Collect "Long Walk Home" Q & A.
Groupwork:
Blue Group: Continue Visions; begin green book "Family Photo" & "Birthday Barbecue"
Green Group: Continue writing fable in groups.  Use script writing format (:).  Do artwork.  Peer edit.  Practice Reader's Theatre. Finish for homework.
HOMEWORK:
Mrs. Thacker's Blue-Green group:
   1. Reread "Family Photo" and "Birthday Barbecue"
   2. Write the new vocabulary in your vocabulary notebook and study it.
   3. Do the first page of the packet.
   4. Be sure you have returned the biography book so Mrs. Trigueros' class can use the books.
   5. Study blends with "l", "r", and "s".  Study endings -nd, -nt, -st, and compound words.
Green Group:
   1. Finish your Reader's Theatre script and practice it so you can present it tomorrow. (Trade telephone numbers or e-mail addresses with your partners if you need to.)
   2. Be sure you have turned in your biography book to Mrs. Thiessen
   3. Read the story called "A Chance to Learn".

2. Teach homophones & compound words and do the pages 5-7of the packet.
3. Answer questions from p. 10.  Copy the questions and use a complete sentence to answer.
Green Group:
1. Finish your script.  Get it corrected for grammar and spelling. Be prepared to present it per. 3.
Per. 3:
Green group: Present your Reader's Theatre.
Homework:  Recopy your script using proper format and draw and color a picture of your character.  Practice reading your part loudly so you will be ready to present it tomorrow.  (We will definitely present it tomorrow!)

Green group: Practice reading your script; then present your Reader's Theatre to the class.

Blue-Green Group: (Mrs. Thacker) (The middle room may or may not be available.)
1. Share orally your picture and writing of your family's celebration.
2. Peer edit the writing for the items listed on activity page 7.
3. Correct grammar pages 4-16.
4. Do Grammar pp. 17-25 for homework.
5. Turn in your activity book for scoring.
6. Test for Unit 1, chapter 1. Turn in.
Green Group: (Miss Stern)
1. Partner reading of "Why the Rooster Crows at Sunrise" (pairs read simultaneously, taking turns)
2. Stamp on-time homework (Activity book p. 64 and grammar pp. 32-35).
3. Correct homework and turn in for points.
4. Test for Unit 2, Chapter 3.  Turn in.
PERIOD 2, WHOLE CLASS:  Ye Chan, Young Jun, and Amir present their Reader's Theatre fable to the class.  (Amir was absent yesterday.)  Please let me know how they do for volume, enunciation, and intonation.
Whole class: listen to read aloud:  Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People's Ears
Review vocabulary using charts and pictures; Skills: cause and effect;
Practice and present the story in Reader's Theatre. (Pass out scripts to groups. Each group needs an iguana, python, etc.  They practice reading their parts. They do not have to act it out.
PERIOD 3: Game Time: Scrabble games and other games.  Clean up before dismissal.
