2/5/08 Warm up: Mini-civics lesson on voting: candidates, primary election, general election, popular votes, electoral votes.  Show U.S. electoral vote map.
Students who celebrate the Chinese New Year: Make a brief presentation to our class about your customs and traditions. While presenters are preparing, the rest of the class makes a K-W-L chart.  After presentation, completed the "Learned" column of your chart.
Mid-period 2: Whole-class reading on Chinese New Year

Blue-Green Group:1. Continue correcting grammar book.
2. Vocabulary Review from p. 93.
HOMEWORK:   Do activity book to page 75.
Green Group:  Correct activity packet pp. 65-68

2. Answer Q & A from p. 128 on a separate paper. use complete sentences.

2/6/08 Attendance & Announcements
Today is the ELAC Meeting for parents after school in B-2 from 3:15 to 4:15
Groupwork: Blue-Green group goes with Mrs. Thacker. Use B-R and then G-3.
Green Group:  Check and correct homework; collect Q & A from "Gonzalo".
Per. 3: How to write a "hook" or "attention grabber" for your introduction.
Start with a quote, interesting fact, question, or short story.
Biography Essay  conclusion.
Final minutes:  Go to the library to change the Reading Counts passwords.  If you have not yet changed your password, go at snack at lunch, or after school.
Homework for all:
1. Write your attention grabber or hook;
2. Write your conclusion
3. Bring all biography items (drafts and copies of articles) to class tomorrow.  We will type in the computer lab. (Remember to bring your headphones if using www.eslreadingsmart.com)
 
2/7/08 Happy Chinese New Year
Get the computer lab key from Mrs. Albers in the office.
Per. 1-2 Computer Lab, room H-4: Type your biography essay, double-spaced.  Include your introduction and conclusion.  Title Page & Bibliography.  Be sure to save your file.
When you are finished, you may work at  www.eslreadingsmart.com and do "Reading Counts" if you have changed your password.

Per.  3 in the classroom:
1. Pass out Home Reading Logs & assign this homework: Students must read 30 minutes per day, 5 days per week.  Read books at your level.  On the left side, copy a passage from the book.  On the right side, write your thoughts or questions. This log is due next Friday February 15th with parent signature.  Work on earning 25 Reading Counts points between now and the end of the trimester.
2. Pass out handwriting page.  Students need to trace and copy for homework.  Show them what "trace" means.
2. Show video on Chinese New Year on www.unitedstreaming.com  
Do follow-up written work.
