Sketchbook Assignment #1

FIRST DRAWING

            Find an object that has many negative spaces in its shape such as a ladder back chair, an egg beater or a bicycle wheel.  Draw only the outside edges and the negative spaces (not the inside details) using a contour line.  Fill in the negative space with patterns or color. 

SECOND DRAWING

            Find  rounded objects (spheres, cones, cylinders) such as apples, oranges, eggs, baseballs, soda cans, ice cream cones.  Draw the objects with shading only, no contour lines.  You may want to direct a light on the objects to create strong highlights and shadows.  Try to shade with gradual changes in the values.  

EXTRA CREDIT

            Draw and shade a ribbon or bow.
